Tokyo, November 26, 2012 --- Hitachi Systems, Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE: 6501), today announced that it has acquired U.S. software firm Cumulus Systems Incorporated. The aim of this acquisition is to strengthen Hitachi Systems' platform business for data centers and cloud service platforms, and virtualization solutions and global businesses.
Cumulus Systems develops and sells a tool for analyzing platform performance, including operating systems such as Microsoft® Windows®, UNIX and Linux, virtualization environments such as VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V, and storage. It also has a development subsidiary in India with sophisticated technical capabilities. Besides selling tools to global hardware manufacturers and systems integrators, the company leverages its technical capabilities to offer software development services (offshore development in India).
Hitachi Systems acquired Cumulus Systems to strengthen its operations by leveraging the performance analysis tool. The acquisition is aimed at strengthening Hitachi Systems' platform business for data center operators and cloud service providers, as well as proposal capabilities for virtualization solutions for end user corporations.
Hitachi Systems is executing various initiatives under its medium-term management plan, with the targets of achieving consolidated net sales and an overseas sales ratio of ¥500.0 billion and 10%, respectively, in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2016. Hitachi Systems aims to achieve these goals by strengthening and expanding its businesses globally through this acquisition.
Moving forward, Hitachi Systems intends to exchange employees with Cumulus Systems, as well as create new products and technologies that leverage each other's strengths￣Hitachi Systems' data center operation technologies and network technologies, and Cumulus Systems' performance analysis tool.
